NEW ORLEANS, LA – This past Monday when in Austin I joined a few friends – John Bush, Heather Fazio, and Monica Mercado – at the monthly Public Safety Commission meeting. On the agenda was the Joint Juvenile Gang Taskforce briefing, featuring comments by DEA, FBI, TX Dept. of Public Safety and Austin Police Department personnel about juvenile gangs in the area and their relationship to drug prohibition.
All of these law enforcement agents readily admit their inability to stem the violence that accompanies drug prohibition, and for good reason – economics.
