Liberty Caravan 2 1/2: Utah to the ‘Shire!

Throughout history individuals have uprooted their lives and relocated to areas where they are better-able to pursue their interests and act without interference from others. They very literally vote with their feet when moving from places like East Germany to West Germany, or from North Korea to South Korea, and soon, from Utah to the ‘shire.

Bryce Nielsen, who is spearheading the convoy/tour Liberty Caravan 2 1/2 will connect with others at meetups along his Utah-to-NH route (to inform them about the Free State Project) and he welcomes others to join the caravan (either visit or move to the ‘shire).

His specific goals:
1. Get more people to move to NH in September.
2. Raise publicity for the FSP through the caravan.
3. An opportunity for those involved to get together, socialize, and plan fun things together while traveling across the country.
4. Personally, it is a way for me to get involved and do something more than just focusing on my own move while I am still in Utah.

Meetups along the route scheduled (as Facebook events)
If you’re in/around one of these cities I encourage you to connect with Bryce to help nail-down a location and get others in your area to turn-out. And if you’ve considered making the move to achieve “liberty in your lifetime!” why not do so now?
Denver, Sept. 7th, 7pm

Chicago, Sept. 12, 7 pm
Keene, Sept. 16, noon
Manchester, Sept. 16, 5 pm
Portsmouth, Sept. 17th

In Bryce’s own words:

Why move to New Hampshire?
See the Free State Project website for a more detailed answer. In a nutshell, I am moving to New Hampshire to be part of a movement already starting to take place there. This movement is taking nonviolent action to bring about an increase in freedom, in an effort to demonstrate to the people of the nation and world that libertarian ideas DO work, and in fact, work better than Statist ideas (ideas based on having a coercive government using force in order to supposedly accomplish social goals that in fact make things worse while diverting money and power to the politically connected insiders). I hope to learn about different ways of getting involved in this process from the 1,000 or so activists who have already moved as part of this project, out of nearly 11,000 who have pledged to move to NH.

Why September?
Two reasons, really. Personal considerations such as family obligations and career and financial considerations made an earlier move not work for me. Also, it aligns with my commitment to the Next 1000 pledge (now closed to new signers), which was an effort to get 1000 people to sign that they would move by Sep 30, 2011, if 999 others agreed. Unfortunately, we came nowhere near the 1000, more like 230 signers, but I still wanted to move early and this pledge gives me an excellent way to time my move. While I would never say the other N1k signers have an obligation, I wanted to help any who might have a desire to move in that time frame an additional reason to do so. The fact that we can travel together, reserve rooms or sites at the same place, etc, makes the trip less onerous, even more so if we can spread out the travel over a 10-12 day period like the original caravan did.

Ademo and I met Bryce when in Salt Lake City in 2010 with Liberty On Tour. I’m looking forward to welcoming him (and whoever else joins the convoy) to the ‘shire!

Though I have not had the chance to follow this project very closely, I just wanted to say I am glad you are still heavily involved in the liberty movement Pete!

I first found out about your activism back when Bureaucrash Social was up and running in fall of 2008, and I am honored to have been one of the recipients of their “revolution in a box” that they gave away to some of the users.

By the way, what is the current status of Nathan Larson?

His profile on Bureaucrash and 2008 campaign were what first got me interested in Anarcho-Capitalism and led me to adopt the views that I now hold today.

I hope he is not still incarcerated.

    RJ, thanks for the comment.

Awesome to hear of Nathan’s impact in your life – I too met him via Bureaucrash Social. Unfortunately he’s still being caged: http://prisonersforliberty.com/nathan-larson I’m sure he’d love to hear from you if you have the time.

Um, sorry. Those dates should all be in September, not December. Didn’t realize I did that until a friend sent me a message about it.

Alright, now that I have his current contact address again I will be sure and get in touch with him.

I still have the original PDF of his campaign platform that really influenced me at the time, and I just might include it as an appendix for a book in the works.

Nostalgia is hitting me now as I think back to the days of Bureaucrash and the changes in political opinion I was going through.

And speaking of that, what exactly happened with Bureaucrash that caused it to wane back in the day? Did everyone just migrate over to fr33agents or was there just a lack of interest?

Last time I went on there about two years ago, the site seemed a little more conservative leaning.
