LOT visits Hopeville in St Louis

DENVER, CO – While in St Louis we had the chance to visit Hopeville, a community of folks living in tents and without government intervention – for the most part.  Reality was kind enough to show us around the community that has a communal fire pit, kitchen and several grills for cooking.

People who come to Hopeville stake out a piece of property and interact with those around them voluntarily.  There are no rules or constitutions to abide though there is a social norm that is understood by most.  They live without official rules but do have a Mayor and security force to handle issues.  Though these appointments aren’t paid and are commonly held by women, which isn’t the case for the government we all know, they are still effective in handling problems.

The people in Hopeville still rely on donations from organization and folks to get by at this point.  They hope a few more donations/improvements to Hopeville will decrease that need.  If you have any of the things mentioned in the video below (blankets, heaters or bikes) please stop by and donate them.  These folks will put them to good use.

I wonder how their security force would handle the situation if one of their security personnel was raped. Call the police, perhaps?

i wish that there was more that those of us who were part of tucker tunnel and the homeless communities could do but even though we are off the streets alot of times we cna ‘t help cause we are barely geting by in the places the state has even us. We have no income or ways to get anywhere except by walking so alot of the times we are almost p[risoners of our homes.
