Edgewater Police Officer Intimidates LOT’s Mueller for Filming

EDGEWATER, NJ – Since it’s close to impossible to park MARV in Manhattan we’ve spent some time just across the Hudson in Edgewater, NJ working from a shopping center that includes a 24hr Starbucks – the first we’ve seen. Unlike other ‘bucks we’ve worked from, the rush isn’t in the morning from commuters on their way to work but late at night when there are literally hundreds hanging out and riding around on their motorcycles and suped-up cars. Unsurprisingly, such a crowd tends to attract the police.

The footage below – captured last Thursday – shows the tactics utilized by officer #33 of the Edgewater Police Department to build rapport with the community.

Is this the type of behavior that a business subjected to market signals would employ? I’d bet not – if they did they’d go under. Check out Bruce Benson’s The Enterprise of Law for more on this, which would make the provision of “law” enforcement more accountable and more efficient.

Unbelievable. So, the whole point was to intimidate you, which is the tactic of most cops. Glad you stood up. Many people would have backed away. This video needs to be spread around as much as possible. I would like to download a copy of it to carry with me to show people. Keep up the good work! Wish you were coming through North Carolina.

you guys are really good with these cops. You got your point across to them and the viewers and I’m really glad you stood up to him.

He gave you something a lot of cops don’t, the truth, he wanted to intimidate you into behaving as he wanted you to. Right on.

Thanks for attempting to keep the local officers in check.

What a bozo that guy is. He agrees he’s in the wrong business “nowadays, yeah!”. Meaning, in the days of video and accountability.

If not for the cameras, he would have happily beat you down.

I sent this to the local ‘leaders’ and chief of police today:

    To whom this May Concern,

Last week I was in Edgewater, NJ when the officer seen in this video confronted me for no reason, other than taking video of him conducting his duties. In the video he admits to wanting to intimidate me for ‘taking his picture.’ I was wondering if I could get an official response to the actions of said officer. Is this the policy of your department when interacting with those within the media?

Will there be any disciplinary actions for this officer? Why does a person have to hand police officers an ID in order to file a complaint? Wouldn’t it be possible to do so without providing your name if you so wish?

    Thanks for your time,

    Adam M. Mueller

Damn. So Adam, how fast can you run backwards while filming? Also what would have happened if you stopped backing up, would the cop get called for charging and the ball get turned over to the LoT guys?

Best video yet. Good work, guys.

  10. Tenant August 13, 2010 at 4:15 pm #

Please….as a tenant of this complex, where are my rights? The crowds are disturbing the business in the community and it is not an organized event. I pay taxes; therefore the area should be patrolled, as of excessive force……gimmie a break!
